Have you been wondering what to do about your thirsty lawn? Drought doesn’t necessarily entail a brown lawn and weeds…it can be an opportunity to create stunning gardens that feed people, wildlife, and community! YOU can be part of the movement to stop wasting water and learn how to create your own water-wise oasis!
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn about a technique called “sheet mulching” which allows you to compost your lawn in place under thick layers of compost, cardboard and mulch. Sheet mulching creates a prime canvas for planting by building soil, retaining moisture and preventing weeds…without the backbreaking labor of digging up the lawn or the chemical leaching and water repellency of plastic weed materials. Did you know that for every 1% increase in organic matter in your soil, you can increase the water storage capacity of your soil tenfold! That’s going to make a very verdant garden! We’ll get hands-on to actually transform the lawn at the Old Vineyard Water-Wise Demonstration Garden.
We hope you'll come out and be part of this groundbreaking opportunity to create a new norm in California’s suburban neighborhoods. This will also be a great opportunity to continue to express your gratitude following the Thanksgiving holiday. We invite participants to bring dishes and snacks to share in order to keep each other fueled!
